Building a modern museum
for creators in the age of AI.
xpaint starts from the world's great paintings. First, we're turning the public-domain masterpieces that museums have opened up into an online museum you can wander anytime. Next, we'll open the doors to creators in the age of AI, with every work labeled with how it was made.
Where the paintings come from
In our first phase, the paintings come from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Open Access program. These works are in the public domain, and The Met has released their images and data under CC0. Every painting's page names the museum it belongs to. More museums' open collections will follow.
How to explore
For creators
Next, we'll open xpaint to creators. Fully hand-drawn, AI-assisted, or AI-generated and refined by hand: every work will be clearly labeled with how it was made, so viewers know what they're looking at.
